Forte Condo a rip-off?
When we saw curbed's post on pictures from the Forte Condos sales models, we thought the same exact thing -- why are these million dollar apartments getting the same fucking appliances as my half a million condo?
I got that same range and microwave. At least the cabinets are white, though.

I agree that the appliances are unimpressive. The layouts are awkward, the common charges are high, too.
I'm not "disappointed" because I was never a fan of the building. I was looking to buy a few months back and was underwhelmed with what they could show so far (nothing in the actual building, of course), and the whole thing - website included - seemd faux-luxury.
Which is fine, if you're paying a reasonable price per square foot. But Forte doesn't have that.
engine joe, i think they realized kind of late that the high maintenance was hindering their sales. now that they've had this free mtn for a year, who knows if sales have picked up..
I checked it out last Sunday and though they are offering a good amount of space. However I'm in PS and I don't know Forte Greene that well so i was naturally skeptical as I am of all new construction. Overall I'm not buying a place for the damn appliances, give me a break.
I don't think anyone would argue that one should buy a condo "for the damn appliances." But once you're in a certain price range, you expect that the units will have high quality in the details - finishes, floors, and yes, appliances.
Is it a make-or-break that the appliances are GE instead of Wolf? Of course it isn't (or rather, it shouldn't be). But it should set off a couple of bells in your head: if the developer is cutting costs in the places you can see, what's going on behind the walls, etc.?
Engine Joe,
Didn't you buy a unit at Belltel? The appliances and finishes are "unimpressive" over there as well (actually, they're pretty damn cheap).
Aren't you concerned about the cost cutting in YOUR building?
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
Mr (Ms?) hoding behing anonymity -
I think the finishes at BellTel are clearly better than Forte (have you actually been in both buildings?). And I opted for the Viking and sub-zero appliances, which were an option at BellTel.
I should have also noted that I was referring to "price range" is an issue, too. Even with the default appliances - which are the same as those at Forte, I grant you - the price per sq. ft. is much lower at BellTel, so I'm not sure the same argument even applies. But whatever.
I've set up a Google group for those interested in the Forte (people in contract, etc.). Please join: http://groups.google.com/group/fortecondo
