New housing for artists in Crown Heights

Close to the Washington Condos on Bergen St. and Franklin, the Community Preservation Corporation has converted an industrial property into living lofts for artists. The Brooklyn Eagle reports that

As previously reported a year ago, CPC and Artopolis acquired the five
industrial properties and two single-family homes along Franklin Avenue, between
Bergen and Dean Streets, in early 2003. The buildings, which have been used most
recently as warehousing and manufacturing facilities, are originally thought to
be part of the circa-1900 Nassau Brewery complex.

With the address of 945 Bergen St. and the name “Franklin Lofts” already
selected, the complex will contain 50 live-work spaces for artists in areas that
will range from two stories to six. There will be several outdoor terraces, some
with landscaping, and trees will be planted on all three sides, according to
plans.
