Blimpie backlash in Ft. Greene
After the hoopla over the imminent arrival of Blimpies and Dunkin Donuts to the treelined streets of Ft. Greene, it seems that neighborhood activists have kicked it into high gear by flyering the neighborhood with a slip of paper that firmly proclaims: NO BLIMPIE ON LAFAYETTE!!!
The flyer asks you to sign your name and address, stamp it and mail it to 64 Lafayette Avenue, site of the alleged store. Among reasons they state for opposing the Blimpies are:
- Blimpie's today, McDonald's tomorrow!
- Fort Greene supports locally owned/operated businesses.
- Fast food is bad for your health!!!

Yes, franchises are ruining the quality of life in the neigborhood.
Drug dealing, sanitation, noise,
crime seem trivial compared to having to walk by a sign that says
Blimpies.
I don't want to downplay the seriousness of the Blimpie's threat, but is this guy aware of the TWENTY SKYSCRAPERS AND A 20,000 SEAT ARENA Ratner is trying to build on us just a few blocks away???
Brooklyn needs to prioritize it's fights right now...Do you want to fight the LARGEST UNWANTED BOONDOGGLE DEVELOPMENT EVER IN BROOKLYN or (your pet project here...)?
not to belittle your cause nor many other's cause, but the guy who did the flyering may have come to the realization that HE HAS ALREADY LOST THE RATNER FIGHT and is attempting to pick off low-hanging fruit, in this case.
or perhaps he owns a brownstone in the immediate area and is more concerned with his own selfish reasons for fighting blimpies and not nj nets.
on a lighter note, the appearance of blimpie's on my site has caused google's adsense to put up quiznos subs ads on my blog!
