G train exit at South Portland to open by end of July

The commute will get that much shorter for people who commute to and from Ft. Greene each day. The MTA has announced that the G train exit at South Portland will be open for use by the end of July.
...the MTA has advised that the South Portland exit of the Queens-bound platform of the Fulton Street G-Train station will be opened by the end of July. This exit had been closed by the MTA in response to increasing crime that impacted the Fort Greene neighborhood years ago. However, Fort Greene, like much of greater New York, has witnessed a precipitous drop in crime in the last decade...

Commuters from Manhattan will be able to take the A-train and transfer to the C- or G-train at Hoyt-Schermerhorn, rather than rely exclusively on the C-train. Residents in Red Hook, Carroll Gardens, and Cobble Hill will be able to easily reach Fort Greene and tap into the community’s cultural riches: The Brooklyn Academy of Music, Fort Greene Park, and the wide variety of shops and restaurants on Fulton Street and DeKalb Avenue. The G-train can now be considered the Gourmet Train, linking two of the city’s culinary boulevards, Smith Street and DeKalb Avenue.
Note the new moniker for the G train - the Gourmet Train!

i'm actually not sure what the big deal is for ppl coming to ft greene from manhattan. they can still take the c or g from hoyt/schermerhorn. once they get out at the G, they'll be at the intersection of fulton/lafayette. you are only 2 short blocks away from where the moe's exit is. anybody agree/disagree? not too big of a difference.

Yeah, I agree. It isn't as big a deal as the article makes it seem, but it sure will be nice to be able to avoid that dank, smelly underpass.
