Winey Neighbor now open at 679 Washington

A new wine store has opened up on the recently-revived strip of Washington Avenue in Prospect Heights. Named the 'Winey Neighbour,' this store features a wine label on every bottle that not only suggest food pairings, but music pairings.

Being a fan of rieslings myself, I've attached a label for a riesling at left. Riesling and Bob Marley, I can definitely live with that.

An opening party is scheduled for January 21; I plan to be there.

It was either a friends and family event, or Dean Street opened up under the radar, as these places usually do on their first night. Left, a picture taken by a reader and sent to us from around 8PM on Thursday night.

Grub Street has some nice words about it today, and also a .pdf of the menu.

The Vanderbilt now offering growlers for sale

Perhaps to drum up business, they are now selling growlers for $18.

The Vanderbilt is selling 64-ounce growlers of beer for $18. Included are Sixpoint Crisp Lager, Peak Organic Winter Session Ale, McNeill’s Champ Pale Ale, Dogfishhead 60 Minute IPA, and Kelso Carroll Garden Wit. [Grub Street]

Seems like a bit of a premium you're paying than buying it from the Brooklyn Beer Distributor two blocks away on Washington.

Eton, which has a location in Carroll Gardens, is set to open on Vanderbilt Avenue soon. See the brownstoner link for the menu. The menu includes banh mi sandwiches, dumplings, Hawaiian shaved ice, bubble tea and ramen. What's next - hand pulled noodles a la Xi'an Famous Foods?

Yep, we think so. Take a look at this craigslist ad. Per the ad:

Goods experiment on Underhill finished

On Underhill, Goods was supposed to be the answer to gentrifiers' needs for fresh bread, locally-sourced flowers, single-origin coffee and other staples. This was back in December 2009. Today, it still has yet to open and doesn't seem like it ever will, if this thread on brooklynian is to be believed.

The link in the thread is here at the Village Voice.
