The NY Observer wants to talk Brooklyn -- who do they go to? Minsky, of course

The New York Observer, that bastion of Manhattan entitlement, did a piece this week on the Manhattan brokerage race to Brooklyn and the increased desirability of Brooklyn for many Manhattanites.

Of course, no piece on Brooklyn is complete without interviewing a couple of pioneering Brooklyn real estate brokers. Jerry Minsky, whom you all know and many hate so much, was prominently quoted.

Two quotes are worth mentioning:

-Of Minsky, they said, "I got out my suits and ties, and my sushi,” he said, “and my output tripled in volume.” Interestingly, the author mistakenly attributes this sushi tidbit to brownstoner.com, when it was actually Set Speed that personally broke this news here.

-The potential purchaser of the Vanderbilt townhouse above, listed at $3.5MM is jeweler David Yurman.

He talked to a reporter while waiting for a Sotheby’s International Realty broker, who was bringing the jeweler David Yurman to see a $3.5 million carriage house on Vanderbilt Avenue in Fort Greene. “Twenty years ago, no Sotheby’s broker would have wanted to talk to Jerry Minsky,” he said.
Who's the mack now??

The idea of David Yurman moving to Fort Greene makes me very uneasy. How can an honest FGer who put in his time on the block and just wants to drink coffee on his stoop and watch his kids grow up in the shadow of the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument compete with multi-millionaires who now find it fashionable to cross the river? I mean, what's wrong with the west village?

i'm sure you're not the only one.

on an aside, ppl on brownstoner constantly harp on the high asking prices, but really, all it takes is one rich mofo from manhattan to say "I do" and the deal is done...
