The follies of Fort Greene retail

In proof that prime Fort Greene can not support a pilates studio, Keep It Moving Pilates Studio has left its' South Portland location and headed for Willoughby Avenue between Adelphi and Clermont. (We hope that they teach pilates better than they spell Cleremont.)

We wonder, though, how they got out of a retail lease so quickly, unless they did a month-to-month based on guaranteed revenue.

i'm pretty sure they didn't have a lease. i've heard that the owner of the building keeps getting busted by inspectors for illegally renting the space out...and he's been rumored to be a pain to deal with....all rumors though, so i don't know.

did this carriage house used to be on the fg house tour? before this, it was a hair salon, before that, some type of vintage clothing store...and for a long time, they always had that illegal curb cut which they claimed was a no parking zone. i hated that as i searched for ASP on specific days..

The Pilates studio had a lot of clients, it had nothing to do with the business. The 'owner' rents it out, even though he doesn't really own the building...it has a ton of violations...takes deposits from other business owners even though, again, he doesn't own the building anymore...at least 5 businesses have fallen prey to this that I have heard of in the last few years. I can't tell why this guy is not in jail...anyone?
