A brighter look at the Washington Condos

Brownstoner has given much face time to the debacle that is Scarano and the Washington Condos, with good reason. Cementing itself as one of the more talked-about condominium projects in a while, the building received its' TCO on November 9. The DOB caught wind of the Scarantics and dealt a severe blow to everyone involved - Scarano, developer, sponsor, broker and buyers. As of today, the DOB has listed a plethora of objections that must be fixed before a new CO is issued.

In light of the plateau-ing market in Brooklyn and apparent glut of condominiums, it is quite clear that the Brooklyn of December 2006 is no longer the say-hey days of as recently as 2004 and 2005 where every developer and his mother was hiring Scarano Architects to pump and dump designs which according to some, have ruined the Brooklyn skyline legacy for years to come. While this is debatable, one thing is for sure - the Scarano aura has certainly taken a few body shots, but can the irascible 'Brooklyn baron' rise above his doubters and continue his erections?

N.B. The mystery continues - where did that picture above come from? It definitely is not a rendering, as has been suggested on brownstoner.com. But the people in it do suspiciously look like they've been photoshopped in. Can anyone shed light?
