Bag searches on C train at Lafayette Avenue

Imagine our surprise this morning as we saw the phalanx of NYC's finest in the Lafayette Ave. subway station, conducting random searches. All the turnstiles were roped off except the main ones in the center of the station. Yours truly was not stopped, although others were not so lucky. Interestingly enough, a Japanese television crew was interviewing some commuters.

Today's NY region article corroborates that Lafayette Avenue was chosen as one of the stations. Not sure of the reasoning behind this, but could it be because it is so close to Brooklyn's Middle East corridor on Atlantic Avenue?

imo: retarded security theater.

at Lafayette C-line subway stop in Brooklyn this morning, 20 cops, 1 golden retriever, 10 metal barricades, 50 meters of orange tape to close off other exits, 4 TV stations, Gary Anthony Ramsay from NY1 and some people treating it like a red carpet premiere.
