Most insane comment in a pretty insulting article: their comment that there are black people here who aren't nannies.
Incredible!
that did perk me up when i read that, but i don't think anyone took offense to it. if anything, just shows how small-minded they were, coming from the west village..or maybe it was taken out of context.
I agree with you JP. So what, there are no black people in the W. Village who aren't nannies?!
I'm a long term Clinton Hill resident and a broker. I take offense to that comment. Gee thanks for "discovering" Ft. Greene...
Actually, if you read it again, it's pretty clear they're making a comment about the West Village's lack of affluent black residents. It's not a comment indicating surprise at black Ft Greene residents who happen to be black, but indirect disdain for the lack in the West Village.
I understand though, if you're looking to find fault, this would be the easy way to go.
You know, I went back and re-read it because a lot of people said they read it as being ironic. I think that might be right.
That said, I'm a little smart (not too smart, but a little bit) and if I read it the wrong way, good chance others did too. Irony is hard to find in NYT articles...
