Vanderbilt, Carlton to become giant parking lot

Blogger Brooklyn Views (via nolandgrab.org) dishes out the news that while the Atlantic Yards project is underway, Forest City plans on making the eastern part of the project into one massive parking lot.

To us, eastern means the area bounded by Vanderbilt and Carlton between Atlantic, Pacific and Dean. So, please all be prepared for an insane glut of cars around that area in a few years. Time to buy stock in BP, which owns the gas station on Vanderbilt and Atlantic.

Unfortunately they are going to try and take that BP gas station by eminent domain.

On the bright side, at least there won't be tall buildings casting a shadow over Fort Greene.

whether one is for the development or against, this proposal should raise the ire of all. Prospect Heights should not be the site of a parking lot for 3000 cars. The fabric of this neighborhood will be shredded with the unbridled and massive invasion of traffic, pollution while creating the anti-essence of brownstone Brooklyn.
