Building collapse in Ft. Greene causes death

A building collapse in Ft. Greene last night took the life of a 23-year-old woman. The building collapse took place on Park Avenue, right underneath the BQE, between Cumberland and Carlton.

this should be instructive for folks living in crap buildings in Brooklyn. I think people assume that if the building is still standing, it's safe. There are a lot of slumlord owners around who probably give a rats ass if it's safe, as long as they don't get caught.

So if you notice that your floor is slanting, the doors no longer close, there are cracks in the walls or bricks falling off the exterior (or even worse, if the abandoned building next door looks like it has seen better days), call the buildings department and ask for an inspector! it's definitely not worth the cheap rent to have a building fall on your head.
