The operative word is sneaky. I was at the community board meeting during the which developer presented his plans. He was arrogance personified. His attitude reflected his sense that he knew best what our neighborhood needed He flaunted his rights as a developer and took pride in design not fitting in to the rest of the block.
I doubt that the comparison between my townhouse and those condos will be made since they are different classes of housing. I doubt I'll ever see $1000 a sq. ft. for my 3000 sq. ft. building. For me the bottom line is that they sneaked in following the letter of the law with little regard for the values surrounding community. Sometimes the spirit of the law, the landmarking values and collaborative planning are more appropriate than sheer legality.
Everyone is not seeking maximum returns on their housing dollar. Sometimes the goal is to find and keep a nice place to live.
The building is imposing, aesthetically offensive and intrusive. The new owner's views are protected while mine has been usurped by a sneaky developer and a self serving real estate agent. I applaud all effort to prevent such aesthetic and ethical traveties in the future.
Brownstone condo converters will profit heavly from this project, a 2 bedroom 1 bath condo on a full floor in a brownstone can now command a price of nearly 700 dollars per square foot

thanks for the input. do you enjoy the fact that there is now a comparable in the neighborhood that is selling at 1000 a square foot?
i know all about abe weiss and how he utilized the 'as-of right' to build that. sneaky, but effective, since he is well within the law.
